In *Strangers in the Aquarium*, Rio de Janeiro native Adriana Armony crafts a powerful novel about identity and redemption. It's about forgetting and memories, currents in an ocean that leaves the characters adrift, at the mercy of their own limitations, regrets, and guilt. A life interrupted. A father dissatisfied. A mother trapped in a perpetual present that repeats itself indefinitely, both the same and different. The end of the year. Young philosophy student Benjamin abruptly leaves the inn where he was staying with his girlfriend and friends and decides to return to Rio de Janeiro alone. But Ben isn't the same: a road accident leaves him paralyzed, with his brain—and memory—severely compromised. According to doctors, recovery is possible, but slow and uncertain. His mother, Júlia, uses her voice as the fragile thread that stitches together the boy's memories, as every 20 minutes, Ben forgets the recent past, mixing memories with present events. His cognitive abilities have also suffered. Her vocabulary takes on an almost poetic connotation. In her third novel—in the first, Adriana fictionalizes a period in Nelson Rodrigues' life, and in the second, her grandmother's memories—the author conducts the plot with the confidence of a seasoned writer, interweaving the chapters in a narrative zigzag, in which the before emerges later, the after expresses itself in the during, so that Benjamin's story, as it surfaces, brings to light the story of his parents. Strangers in the Aquarium is a dense novel, in which feelings and emotional bonds appear at times murky, at times clear, like a reflecting pool. Selected from among several narratives for the Petrobras literature grant, the book further confirms Adriana Armony as one of the most versatile writers of her generation.","brand":"Totvsrj-record-dc","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47175903150332,"sku":"9788501096487","price":59.9,"currency_code":"BRL","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0722\/9197\/5420\/files\/b47a22c4dd428cc7760d6dcf52e71df6_b263577b-1a4a-4ea2-8693-9f4dc65e564f.jpg?v=1778324356"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.record.com.br\/en\/collections\/adriana-armony.oembed","provider":"Editora Record","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
