Through the story of young Yvette, the vicar's daughter, oppressed by her grandmother and aunts and pressured by the man who wants to marry her, Lawrence questions society's position. When the young woman breaks out of her routine and allows herself to develop feelings for a mysterious gypsy who crosses her path, her beliefs are challenged, and she realizes she is the protagonist of her own life.

Desire permeates all the stories, appearing as an important direction in the characters' lives. Lawrence portrays sex as something natural, part of the human essence, connecting man to nature, and therefore considered immoral by society at the time. His work, much deeper than the obscenity to which it was reduced at the time, also raises social questions and the contrast between industrialization and rural life and traditions.

Even though it was written at the beginning of the 20th century, DH Lawrence's work remains current and thought-provoking.

“DH Lawrence was always ahead of his time on gender issues and was very insightful about the sexual behavior of his characters.” – Andrew Harrison, author of The Life of DH Lawrence and director of the DH Lawrence Research Centre
\
A collection of short stories by the author of Lady Chatterley's Lover. Exclusive to BestBolso, this anthology introduces contemporary readers to the world of D.H. Lawrence. Considered an erotic author in his time, he wrote about marriages, adulteries, separations, flirtations, and courtships, always emphasizing the sexual tension in each of these relationships. In his view, desire guided everyone's lives, but social and economic barriers would always be there to hinder them, especially in a hierarchical society like Britain, which, even in the 20th century, still cultivated rigid Victorian morality. His work caused controversy, and some of his books were even censored. A century later, his themes remain relevant and thought-provoking. This paperback edition brings together the following texts: "Just a Woman"; "The Shadow in the Rose Garden"; "Mrs. Radford's Turn"; "The Union Grant"; "Second Place"; "The Shadows of Spring"; and "The Old Adam." The book's titular short story, "Just a Woman," tells the story of two women, March and Banford, who live on a secluded farm, tormented by a fox that roams the property. Their routine changes completely when a young soldier arrives at the ranch and awakens March's burning desire.
