Thus, amid the intelligent prose of Domingos Pellegrini, winner of the 2001 Jabuti Prize, Luiz Carlos Prestes, Miguel Costa, Siqueira Campos, and Getúlio Vargas appear. Names from the country's recent history are transformed into characters in this novel that, according to the author, is a snapshot of Brazilian revolutions. The story of IN THE HEART OF THE PEROBAS, a novel that seeks to paint a critical picture of Brazilian society, begins in present-day Londrina, where Juliana meets a former member of the movement named Juliano Siqueira, and continues in Foz do Iguaçu, where the Prestes Column departed in 1925. From there, the narrative travels across the country and through time, also encompassing the revolutions of 1930 and 1932, the communist uprising of 1935, the attempted Integralista coup in 1938, the leftist tide of the 1960s, and the military coup of 1964, all the way to the great popular marches of the end of the century. And it is the strength of a people's unity that the novel portrays and honors in its title: although the peroba tree is the tallest of trees, it can only grow strong and beautiful among other trees, explains Domingos Pellegrini. IN THE HEART OF THE PEROBAS is also a love story. Along the way, Juliana falls in love with a married photographer, on the verge of separation, named Miguel Costa—also the name of the São Paulo leader of the Column. The world of political and social transformations of the time runs parallel to a love story. After all, says Domingos Pellegrini, romantic passion is, in us, like a revolution in a country—it enchants, engages, and liberates: \"Revolutions and passions give meaning to life, despite the stupidities they cause!\" Writer Domingos Pellegrini established himself as a short story writer and author of young adult books. \"IN THE HEART OF THE PEROBAS\" is his fourth novel, following \"Red Earth,\" \"Question of Honor,\" and \"The Case of the Farm Ground.\" \"Although, it seems, Brazil hasn't realized it yet, Domingos Pellegrini is one of our greatest writers of all time.\" - Wilson Martins (Prose \u0026amp; Verse, Jornal O Globo)","brand":"Totvsrj-record-dc","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47174974374140,"sku":"9788501062116","price":79.9,"currency_code":"BRL","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0722\/9197\/5420\/files\/98b7b38d699359577bd83fb7d0bb8d67.jpg?v=1778322885"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.record.com.br\/en\/collections\/domingos-pellegrini.oembed","provider":"Editora Record","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
