The book is the fifth in the Minas Gerais writer's 17-year career, his fourth of short stories. The title alludes to a quote by Israeli writer Amos Oz, which appears as an epigraph in the book, stating that \"even the shadow has its shadow.\" Melo says that this is perhaps one of the challenges of a short story writer: seeing what the ordinary eye cannot grasp. \"In this sense, perhaps my work has always sought to see this shadow that often goes unnoticed in real life.\" Aesthetically, the new work continues the path of his previous books. \"Since my first published book, The Inventor of Stars, I've always been searching for this reinterpretation of human beings and their seemingly banal experiences. Trying to see what's poetic, or what's dark, as is the case with some of the stories in The Shadow Collector, what lies behind the feelings, more than the feelings themselves, of the actors who experience the plots,\" he said. Some stories in the book point to the fantastic, a genre little explored in Brazilian literature. The author acknowledges its influence on his work, but focuses on a different angle than usual in the genre. \"I often say that what attracts me is not the fantastic itself, but the border between the real and the fantastic, that mysterious space in which one is uncertain whether we are facing a concrete, scientific reality or imaginary or transcendent possibilities.\"","brand":"Totvsrj-record-dc","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47159685382396,"sku":"9788501080493","price":49.9,"currency_code":"BRL","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0722\/9197\/5420\/files\/3a76c711e1a22bb65aa880a4a57bbac4_633c0449-72d4-483c-abbd-fa535e609912.jpg?v=1778555555"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.record.com.br\/en\/collections\/joao-batista-melo-dos-santos.oembed","provider":"Editora Record","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
