{"title":"João Maximo","description":"","products":[{"product_id":"gigantes-do-futebol-brasileiro","title":"Giants of Brazilian football","description":"João Máximo and Marcos de Castro donned the jerseys of soccer coaches and masterfully selected the Brazilian national team of all time in this new book, *Gigantes do futebol brasileiro*. Almost 45 years after the first edition, written by the two then-young journalists, this version features nine additional stars and corrects two absences considered unforgivable by fans and the authors themselves: Ademir and Didi. A source of heated controversy among fans, players, and sports critics at the time, this historic debt is repaid in the beautiful edition now available in bookstores. An essential book for the memory of a country like Brazil, whose name has been placed at the top of world soccer history thanks to the performances of these great stars. In the introductory text, writer Luis Fernando Verissimo asserts that these giants of the field are characters in the lives of Brazilians: \"Those we saw play were our heroes. Those we didn't see play are part of a shared history, a past shared by all football fans, regardless of age. In one way or another, they are characters. And the great thing about this book is that it treats them as characters. You won't just see the careers of these giants, with statistics and dates. You'll read the stories in which they are characters, written with acuity and literary sensitivity.\" The first edition of Giants of Brazilian Football, published in December 1965, became a classic over the years, and copies became rare in second-hand book stores. The foreword was by Paulo Mendes Campos, who said: \"Football is part of the personal history of every Brazilian in our time. We too are characters in a book like this.\" Since then, football has changed greatly, and this transformation in the sport is portrayed through the story of each player in their era. From the near-mythological Friedenreich, a mixed-race player who broke barriers in elite soccer at the beginning of the last century, to Domingos da Guia, the \"Divine Master,\" and Leônidas, the inventor of the \"bicycle,\" and arriving at the stars of the new generation, Gigantes spans nearly a hundred years of Brazilian soccer: from the days of the suburbs and small clubs to the professionalization and stardom of today's players. As in the first edition of Gigantes, the authors caution that these are not necessarily the greatest Brazilian players of all time, but rather some giants whose stories they would like to tell or retell. To this end, they rely on the caution recommended by coaches of recent Brazilian national teams: only justify those called up, never those not called up. After all, in this country of stars, these players wouldn't fit into a single volume.","brand":"Totvsrj-record-dc","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47159551918332,"sku":"9788520009727","price":59.9,"currency_code":"BRL","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0722\/9197\/5420\/files\/b628a91a7e27c8b6b11c98e5d2cffaac_aa173330-d826-43ca-a763-8e74b0bfffb3.jpg?v=1778320378"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.record.com.br\/en\/collections\/joao-maximo.oembed","provider":"Editora Record","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
