The mayor is there, as are the newspapers, the other residents of the retirement home, and the grumpy director, Alice. The only problem is that the birthday boy doesn't care about the party; after all, he's not that old, and exploring the world seems like a much more fun idea. Even if it means climbing out of his bedroom window and disappearing—in his pajamas, slippers, and only a few bucks in his pocket. Even with his feeble legs, he manages to get to the bus station, buy a ticket, and, in the first of many unusual situations our old man will find himself in, he steals the luggage of a very rude young man who had gone to the bathroom, and embarks on a journey with no fixed destination. What he didn't imagine was that the suitcase on wheels contained millions and millions of Swedish kronor, much less that it belonged to a gang. Now, the asylum staff, the press, city authorities, the police, and a band of criminals are after him. But Allan isn't alone. Along the way, he makes new friends (or, rather, accomplices, including a docile elephant), hatches elaborate plans, perfects crimes, and stars in some of the most hilarious chase and escape scenes in literature. But this is far from Allan Karlsson's greatest adventure. Throughout his 100 years, accidentally or not, he has always been in the right place at the right time. He not only witnessed some of the greatest events of the 20th century but also played a pivotal role in them. Mao Zedong, Churchill, Truman, Stalin, and General Franco all fell into the graces of the clumsy and not-so-naive Allan—changing the course of history over a bar table with some (our old man always had a weakness for vodka) or saving the lives of others. During this unusual lifelong journey, Jonas Jonasson builds an extremely captivating character, reminiscent of Forrest Gump, and recounts, in a much more entertaining version, how some of the most significant events of the last century unfolded. Do you still think Oppenheimer didn't need a helping hand to complete the Manhattan Project and bomb Japan?","brand":"Totvsrj-record-dc","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47159595991292,"sku":"9788501091970","price":64.9,"currency_code":"BRL","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0722\/9197\/5420\/files\/6cde1e00b421dfc607fc95797e083c08.jpg?v=1778313206"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.record.com.br\/en\/collections\/jonas-jonasson.oembed","provider":"Editora Record","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
