It originates from the Renaissance, when the Italian language was gradually separating itself from its mother tongue, Latin, and from the barbarisms introduced into it during the Middle Ages. The Prince separated political norms from theological concepts to transform them into simple fruits of direct, everyday observation, considering the art of governing from an exclusively objective and calculated perspective. Its author recorded what sovereigns did, not what they should have done. Machiavelli practiced a true scientific positivism in politics by basing it on experience and observation. He studied the emergence of political forms, the internal and external causes of their decline, and sought to unravel the laws that, in both Antiquity and Modernity, determined their birth and decline. The Prince is considered the seminal work of political science and a classic of the Italian language. The author Nicoló Di Bernardo Dei Machiavelli was born in Florence on May 3, 1496. A disciple of the man of letters Marcello Virgilio Adriani, he began his education in public affairs with him in 1494, while Charles VIII invaded Florence and expelled the Medici. That year, Machiavelli was appointed, under Adriani's orders, clerk in the second chancellery. In 1498, Adriani assumed the role of chancellor of the republic, and Machiavelli was promoted to second chancellor, a position he held for 14 years. His life during this period was extremely active, carrying out missions in Italy, France, and Germany. In 1512, the Medici returned to Florence, and Machiavelli was deposed, arrested, and sentenced to live in exile. He was granted amnesty in 1519, when he returned to his hometown and began exercising political and military functions. He died poor and bitter in the same city where he was born, on June 22, 1527.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0722/9197/5420/files/c1d0ba116444c97f599280327400d2a4_a1100cd4-6cb6-4b8e-850f-b58cc9f32b52.jpg?v=1778324732
o-principe-edicao-de-bolso
The Prince (Paperback)
"
A fundamental work for understanding modern political thought in a paperback edition.

From the founder of political science, the one who first understood that power was not granted by God, but that it is temporal.

A fundamental classic in the history of modern political thought, The Prince derives from observations made by Niccolò Machiavelli (1469-1527) while serving as a diplomat.
