The researcher shows how Brazilian musical genres, such as modinhas, choros, sambas, among others, flourished to the sound of its six strings. The author discusses the place of the guitar in Brazilian society, long considered an instrument of the lower classes and therefore despised among the elite. Marcia conducts in-depth research on the subject and shows that boundaries were not as rigid as history suggests. \"The instrument's association with marginalized sectors constituted a privileged object of analysis from the moment its use raised numerous questions related to the social status of its players. (...) However, the guitar wasn't just on the streets. It frequented the Catete Palace in the hands of Nair Teffé, First Lady and wife of President Hermes da Fonseca; it was the great companion and musical archive of Villa-Lobos, the composer responsible for the emergence of the concert repertoire dedicated to the instrument,\" the author emphasizes. The researcher and violinist shows that the stage for musical development in Brazil was Rio de Janeiro. \"Rio de Janeiro's regional music undeniably took on the status of national music. Genres such as choro and samba emerged and developed in the city, establishing repertoire incorporated into the national collection,\" she states. She also addresses the importance of the development of new media – the recording industry, radio and cinema – in the process of legitimizing the guitar and the rhythms that held its soul.","brand":"Totvsrj-record-dc","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47159900537084,"sku":"9788520010297","price":59.9,"currency_code":"BRL","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0722\/9197\/5420\/files\/c4c6526546d9c7126ef89982ffae1faf_ec9a7589-5818-4274-b293-819d6f83a886.jpg?v=1778325089"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.record.com.br\/en\/collections\/marcia-emerlindo-taborda.oembed","provider":"Editora Record","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
