Nor did anyone realize that this decisive step was only possible thanks to a pioneering and determined process that had begun three years earlier with the meeting of three childhood friends who, after thirty years of living together, suddenly found themselves professionally reunited during one of the most critical periods Rio de Janeiro's public security has ever experienced. \"The Iron Bird\" details how and why this helicopter was purchased, from the first steps taken during the transitional administration of newly elected governor Sérgio Cabral in late 2006, through technical trips to the US and Colombia, to the selection of the perfect aircraft to confront the reality of urban crime in Rio de Janeiro. The story of this helicopter serves as a guiding thread through a period, during 2007 and 2008, of both great sacrifices and intense action for the operational areas of the Civil and Military Police. Told by then-Undersecretary of Security, Marcio Colmerauer—who initiated the operation, assembled the necessary personnel, monitored it, and acted decisively to ensure the successful outcome of this endeavor—this is a unique account, from a privileged perspective, from the inside, from the field, from the front lines. Colmerauer reveals the behind-the-scenes conversations, the most intense confrontations, and the threats never reported in the newspapers, the helicopter's heroic arrival by air from the United States, the crucial factors in the police's resumption of aerial supremacy in the face of drug trafficking, and the consolidation of this aircraft as an indispensable player in the process of pacifying communities in Rio de Janeiro. Marcio Colmerauer is a Public Security specialist with over twelve years of experience in the public sector. He served as Undersecretary of Security for the State of Rio de Janeiro in 2007 and 2008. A lawyer with a master's degree in Business Management from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation, he is currently (2014) Chief of Staff for the Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of Planning and Management. Throughout his career, he has received several honors for his services, including the Civil Police Inter Pares Medal, the Ministry of Defense Victory Medal, the Civil Police Friendship Medal, the Order of Military Merit of the Military Police (Commander), the Army Collaborator Emeritus, and the Tiradentes Medal awarded by the Rio de Janeiro State Legislative Assembly.","brand":"Totvsrj-record-dc","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47174973260028,"sku":"9788501035127","price":89.9,"currency_code":"BRL","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0722\/9197\/5420\/files\/873822ecca31dee0e522ba481df52c3f.jpg?v=1778310049"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.record.com.br\/en\/collections\/marcio-colmerauer.oembed","provider":"Editora Record","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
