Philomena was still young and single when she became pregnant. Living in Ireland in the 1950s, she was taken to a convent to receive special care and atone for her \"sins.\" Among the nuns, she raised her son for three years, until the church decided to sell him for adoption, without first forcing her to sign a document promising never to see her son again. Adopted by an American family, Michael, as he came to be known, became a successful lawyer and one of the most prominent figures in the Republican Party during the Reagan and Bush administrations. But he also kept secrets that jeopardized his career and the search for his mother. To piece together this story, Sixsmith spoke with several of his subjects and gathered photographs, letters, diaries, and documents. The gaps were gradually filled in, like detective work, to which the journalist dedicated himself for about five years. Philomena, by British journalist Martin Sixsmith, features a foreword by actress Judi Dench, who plays the character in the film. Based on the book, the film, directed by Stephen Frears, received four Oscar nominations in 2014. Martin Sixsmith was born in Cheshire, England, and studied at Oxford, Harvard, and the Sorbonne. From 1980 to 1997, he worked for the BBC as a correspondent in Moscow, Washington, Brussels, and Warsaw. From 1997 to 2002, he served as director of communications for the British government. He is currently a writer, presenter, and journalist. In addition to Philomena, he has published two nonfiction books and two novels. Martin lives in London with his wife and four children.","brand":"Totvsrj-record-dc","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47174937575676,"sku":"9788576862789","price":69.9,"currency_code":"BRL","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0722\/9197\/5420\/files\/5bfbc3f8cc68ff4356c592a98cb58267.jpg?v=1778318022"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.record.com.br\/en\/collections\/martin-sixsmith.oembed","provider":"Editora Record","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
