Ivone Lara – The woman in samba","description":"Responsible for some of the most beautiful batucado songs in Brazil, such as \"Sonho meu\" and \"Alônimo me avisou,\" Dona Ivone Lara is a central figure in Brazilian popular music. The first woman to join the composers' section of a samba school, her trajectory is intertwined with the history of the rhythm itself. In \"Nasci para sonhar e cantar,\" Mila Burns, a reporter for Rede Globo, conducts an anthropological, gender, and race study of the singer and lyricist's life and career. The book's purpose, in addition to chronicling Dona Ivone Lara's career, is to contextualize the presence of women, especially composers, in Brazilian popular music, and the kinds of adversities and prejudices they had to overcome. \"I see Dona Ivone as a representation of tenacity, willpower, and, above all, intelligence. She charts her own course, is master of her destiny, and doesn't wait for things to happen,\" says Mila. \"Born to Dream and Sing\" follows the singer's journey, from her early orphanhood, through the years she divided her time between samba and her career as a nurse, to her late breakthrough as a singer. Mila Burns interviewed Dona Ivone Lara and other sources connected to the author several times. The research took over a year. The book began as the author's master's thesis in Anthropology, but underwent a second writing and adaptation process. \"I had to make major adjustments. It's a very complicated thing for an academic, perhaps more difficult than writing a thesis. It's painful to give up certain references that have been researched for a long time, practically becoming part of my bedside table. The changes, however, are necessary to make the reading less difficult, less academic, and I worked hard to do this without leaving out interesting references,\" he concludes.","brand":"Totvsrj-record-dc","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47175416512764,"sku":"9788501083784","price":54.9,"currency_code":"BRL","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0722\/9197\/5420\/files\/85b3f0e6b76bbf15a7076201139e5091.jpg?v=1778322617"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.record.com.br\/en\/collections\/mila-burns.oembed","provider":"Editora Record","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
