{"title":"Richard Rayner","description":"","products":[{"product_id":"o-arranha-nuvens","title":"The cloud-sky","description":"Richard Rayner's \"Cloudscraper\" uses the skyscraper as its central metaphor. The novel tells the story of Esko, a Finnish boy with a disfigured face, whose main goal is to fulfill his dream of becoming an architect, as well as to find an elusive true love. In 1901, three events shape the future of eleven-year-old Esko. He is the victim of a fire, which leaves him burned and blind in one eye. The creation of an elevator in an incredibly tall building in the Finnish capital immediately captures the imagination of the boy, who lives in a remote village. A few months later, at the village fair, he meets a beautiful Russian girl, Katerina Malysheva, with whom he falls in love. She is the daughter of the provincial governor, appointed by the tsar. Years pass, and Esko continues to pursue his dreams as a draftsman in Helsinki. There, he reunites with Katerina, now engaged to Klaus, his best friend. After the Bolshevik Revolution and the civil war in his own country, in which he fought, Esko emigrated to New York in 1922, where he worked building skyscrapers and ended up saving the life of Paul Mantilini, who, over time, became a powerful bootlegger. His entry into the world of New York architecture was gained through a design competition organized by a newspaper, and once again, Esko encountered Katerina, who was making a name for herself in the same city as a photographer. But she was now engaged to Andrew MacCormick, a member of Manhattan's elite, who offered to finance the skyscraper Esko dreamed of designing. In a twist of events, Andrew, Katerina's husband, was murdered. A desperate Esko turned to his bootlegger friend, now a bona fide mobster, for help. Ultimately, Esko had to put a price on his dreams, values, honor, and life. In The Cloudscraper, Richard Rayner vividly captures the details of Finnish culture, history, landscapes, and architectural style. This is an old-fashioned novel in the best sense of the word: full of incident and passion, presenting a bit of history and connecting it to a gripping plot.","brand":"Totvsrj-record-dc","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47176629682428,"sku":"9788528613001","price":99.9,"currency_code":"BRL","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0722\/9197\/5420\/files\/305f6ccf97a1a54cdfb3745e995ccf68.jpg?v=1779851908"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.record.com.br\/en\/collections\/richard-rayner.oembed","provider":"Editora Record","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
