At 88, he is Israel's most veteran peace activist and has been providing us with magnificent writings on the Palestinian Question for years. *Another Israel* brings together key articles on this issue, which directly impacts peace in the Middle East and around the world. Journalist Guila Flint organized the writings. The author demonstrates that there are forces within Israeli society that refuse to submit to propaganda and justifications for illegal acts. Drawing on his decades of hard-won engagement, Avnery continues to demonstrate that peace with the Palestinians is possible, but it doesn't just fall from the sky; it must be achieved. In one of his powerful articles, Uri Avnery makes a moving apology to the Palestinian people. \"We cannot continue to ignore the fact that in the 1948 war—which for us is the War of Independence and for you is the Nakba—approximately 750,000 Palestinians were forced to leave their homes and lands. (...) During 60 years of conflict and war, you were prevented from exercising your natural right to independence in your own free nation-state. (...) For all this, we owe you a heartfelt apology.\" Leader of the Gush Shalom (Peace Bloc) movement, Avnery was born in the depths of Germany more than 88 years ago, with the civil name of Helmut Ostermann. What sets him apart is the fact that, as early as 1948-1949, in the midst of the war against the Arabs, he perceived the true dangers that would surround the country he had dreamed of. It wouldn't be the Arabs who threatened the idea of Israel, but the very resourcefulness of right-wing Zionists in appropriating the Hebrew dream in Palestine. \"When my friends and I began campaigning for this solution (the two-state solution) in 1949, there weren't even a hundred people in Israel or anywhere else in the world who believed in it. Today, there is a global consensus in its favor. The question is how to make it a reality, given the inflexible opposition of the current right-wing leadership in Israel,\" states Avnery. In the preface, written exclusively for the Brazilian edition, the activist highlights the importance of Brazil recognizing Palestine as a state. \"A similar act was that of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva when he recognized the State of Palestine in 2010 – the first president of a Western country to do so. The fact that it was quickly followed by almost every country in Latin America shows that a shining example can inspire others,\" the activist exclaims.","brand":"Totvsrj-record-dc","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47175133200636,"sku":"9788520010549","price":69.9,"currency_code":"BRL","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0722\/9197\/5420\/files\/90a753c3c2e4018be7673446682748bd.jpg?v=1778317388"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.record.com.br\/en\/collections\/uri-avnery.oembed","provider":"Editora Record","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
