{"product_id":"a-sentinela","title":"The sentinel","description":"In The Sentinel, originally published in 1994, Lya once again uses a house as a setting; a labyrinth-like house, in which a woman searches for a way out, but also tries to decipher herself along the way and ends up finding herself. \"It's a hopeful book: someone is reborn in and of themselves, and even though they harbor a final, indecipherable mystery in the grotto of their swampy garden (both internal and external), they launch themselves into life and recreate the world,\" explains the author. Always elaborating her vision of human existence as a drama, an escalation, a succession of achievements and failures, Lya introduces us to the main character of this novel, Nora, rejected by her mother, living her childhood amidst a few moments of affection from her father and petty cruelties from her sister, Lilith, the darling of the house. To the lack of love and abandonment, which would leave a deep scar on her soul, are added two tragedies: her sister's suicide and the violent death of her father. Nora's life is a succession of hopes and searches: hoping that one day her mother would begin to love her; preserving a passion that slips through her fingers; having the unconditional support of her stepsister; escaping the loveless marriage that would give her her most precious possession: her son Henrique. He seems like a sweet boy, but little by little he reveals that he is suffocated under his mother's care and paranoia. Tangled in this web, Nora teeters between anguish and emptiness. Until she decides to take control of her life and be the master of her own choices. A turning point is noted in Lya's novel: the characters in The Sentinel are no longer exclusively driven by fate, but are also responsible for their ethical, moral, and emotional choices. The plots and existential dramas, the meaning and value of life, the banal and mysterious everyday, loves and missed encounters. The choices and silences. \"I write about isolation and tenderness, our disturbing ambivalence, frivolity and cowardice, sometimes grace and laughter. Here and there, the dark night,\" he says.","brand":"Totvsrj-record-dc","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47174509363452,"sku":"9788501066046","price":49.9,"currency_code":"BRL","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0722\/9197\/5420\/files\/a73d997e352bcf83bef7840a5912fd15.jpg?v=1778324434","url":"https:\/\/www.record.com.br\/en\/products\/a-sentinela","provider":"Editora Record","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
