{"product_id":"perseguicao","title":"Persecution","description":"WINNER OF THE 2013 JABUTI AWARD - Best Cover Perseguição, by Alessandro Piperno, features Leo Pontecorvo, a 48-year-old internationally renowned pediatric oncologist. When accused of a crime, the professor and doctor's honesty and the details of his private life are questioned by everyone, including his family. Thus, overnight, Leo finds himself transformed into the preferred target of public censure: a victim of hatred, intrigue, denunciation, slander, and intimidation. The story begins when, on a family trip, he receives a strange letter from his son's 12-year-old girlfriend. Instead of letting it go and forgetting, perhaps due to his arrogance and need to be loved, the protagonist not only responds but exchanges many other messages with the girl. Reading this way, it may seem appealing and surreal. Impressive. Perseguição has a complex story, a dense psychological aspect, and an important debate on current issues. Initially, one might think it's just another adventure thriller, a chase story, or the protagonist's well-worn attempt to prove his innocence. Instead of linearity, Piperno uses interweaving of facts and eras, blending the present—Leo's suffering as events unfold—with the past—events that culminated in the central episode and which help the reader understand the doctor's actions. Given the author's dexterity, the reader is never confused; it's as if everything complements one another. Another blend Piperno creates is between text and image, a relationship that will only be understood in the final third of the story. All of the protagonist's mistakes stem from the spoiled young man who is suspicious whenever he's being contradicted. Despite being a famous and ultra-dedicated doctor who deals with children daily, he is immature, needy, and quite absent from home. Most likely, Leo found in these children at the hospital people emotionally similar to himself. And perhaps that's why he accepted the situation created by his son's girlfriend. By the end of the book, the reader will ask: do we always live at the mercy of the unconscious? Even if we rationally deny it, would it be possible? As for the characters, would the wife be right in not even doubting the story? Would the husband be right in finding his wife's behavior unfair?","brand":"Totvsrj-record-dc","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47174919291132,"sku":"9788528615654","price":69.9,"currency_code":"BRL","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0722\/9197\/5420\/files\/ebdbc2c02c8325c08dbd840e19197951_09760fa6-fbcb-466a-a327-c0040e61ca15.jpg?v=1778326629","url":"https:\/\/www.record.com.br\/en\/products\/perseguicao","provider":"Editora Record","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
