The title poem, which opens the volume, records the poet's openness to a broader vision of humanity. The collection of poems collected here also reveals a more participatory and committed political stance (albeit aware of its limits) in transforming reality.

The social poems in "Sentimento do Mundo" are some of the finest ever produced in Brazilian literature. "O operário no mar" (The Worker at Sea), "Os ombros suporm o mundo" (The Shoulders Support the World), "Mundo Grande" (The Big World), and "Noite dissolves men," among others, are examples of an engaged literature in which, as critic Antonio Candido wrote, referring to Drummond's political stance at the time, "adherence to socialism and the denial of the capitalist system" are expressed "in a lyrical key, as something that comes from within and exists first and foremost as a way of being."

This new breadth, while representing a turning point in Drummond's work, does not, of course, eliminate the strong ties he had with Minas Gerais and his hometown. The two dimensions coexist, more or less tensely, throughout the book. This decisive connection to his origins is evident, for example, in the poem "Confidência do Itabirano": "For some years I lived in Itabira. / Mostly I was born in Itabira. / That's why I'm sad, proud: made of iron."

The new editions of Carlos Drummond de Andrade's work feature texts edited by experts, with unprecedented access to the collection of annotated copies and manuscripts he left behind. In Sentimento do Mundo , readers will find an afterword by Indigenous leader, environmentalist, and author Ailton Krenak, as well as selected bibliographies by and about Drummond; and the section titled "At the Time of the Release," a chronology of the three years immediately before and after the book's first publication.

Complete bibliographies, a chronology of the poet's life and work, and variations in the process of fixing the texts are available via the QR code located on the back cover of this volume.
