In the same vein as Game of Thrones, The Witchfinder reconstructs a mythical medieval England, with magic and plenty of political intrigue. In 16th-century Anglia, the practice of magic is illegal, and offenders are burned at the stake. Elizabeth Grey is one of the king's best witchfinders: she locates and captures Reformers, rebels suspected of practicing witchcraft, so they can be tried and executed, as the law dictates. Until, inexplicably, she is framed and imprisoned on charges of practicing the art she dedicated herself to eradicating. Salvation, however, ultimately comes in the form of her greatest enemy: Nicholas Perevil, the most powerful and sought-after wizard in Anglia. As Elizabeth aligns herself with the Reformers, her beliefs about the legitimacy of the prohibition of magic are profoundly shaken. She finds herself in the midst of a political struggle of epic proportions and realizes that her former allies are now her mortal enemies. Is Elizabeth ready to decide where her loyalties lie after all?
