The Construction of the Third World

Conceived from a groundbreaking comparative study of the histories of ideas and economic ideologies in Romania and Brazil, the book reconstructs the attempt to overcome underdevelopment in Latin America and Central-Eastern Europe. In this study, the notion of the "Third World" regains relevance and allows us to identify the set of ideas that gave rise to a "development economy" present in academic institutions and UN agencies.
