During the reign of the Norman kings in 12th-century Sicily, Romans, Greeks, Arabs, and Jews coexisted in harmony. The young Norman Thurstan Beauchamp worked for Yusuf, a Muslim who controlled the kingdom's finances. Considered a loyal servant, Thurstan was assigned to thwart a conspiracy against the king. During his travels, he reconnected with an old flame and met the mysterious and sensual dancer Nesrin. Thurstan found himself on a true spiritual odyssey, questioning the nature of his ambitions and the folly of reverence for royal authority.
