Sinopse

From his home in New Jersey, Oscar Wao dreams of becoming the Latin American Tolkien, but things have never been easy for the young Dominican. The 2008 Pulitzer Prize-winning The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao placed Junot Díaz in the pantheon of contemporary writers.

Life has never been easy for Oscar, a friendly, overweight Dominican nerd living in the New Jersey ghetto who dreams of becoming the Latin Tolkien and, above all, of finding true love. The truth is, he'll likely never achieve his dreams, thanks to the fukú—an ancient curse that has plagued his family for generations, condemning relatives to prison, torture, tragic accidents, and, above all, ill-fated passions. Oscar, who still yearns for his first kiss, is its most recent victim—until the fateful summer he decides to make it his last.

With magnificent skill, Junot Díaz presents the tumultuous lives of our hero, his runaway sister Lola, and their beautiful and elusive mother, Belicia, describing the family's epic journey from Santo Domingo to New Jersey: a portrait of the woes of the Dominican dictatorship and the struggle of Oscar Wao's family for survival in cruel historical moments.

Written with humor and tenderness, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao mocks the promises of the American dream. A literary triumph that confirms Junot Díaz as one of the best and most exciting writers working today. This new Brazilian edition has not only been completely revised but also features a new cover and graphic design.
