The devil's hand

When Ashley Reeves, a young journalist for Missing Link, a magazine about freaks of nature, receives a letter promising the story of a lifetime, it could cost her her life. Thus begins The Devil's Hand, Dean Vincent Carter's debut. In the letter, its author, Reginald Mather, claims to possess an insect known as the Ganges Red—a unique and extraordinary species of the Aedes aegypti mosquito family, known for its supernatural abilities. Arriving at the sender's remote location, Ashley is met with an unpleasant surprise: the insect is not as harmless as she expected, nor is its well-intentioned owner.
