A macabre secret inhabits the Hotel da Torre In the 1950s, the Tower Hotel, with its 28 rooms, was the biggest attraction in little London, Vermont. Today it lies abandoned, alive only in the memories of three women—sisters Piper and Margot and their friend, Amy Slater, the daughter of the family that ran it. They used to play there as children, until one day their games unearthed something macabre and sinister from the Slaters' past—something that spelled the end of Piper and Margot's friendship with Amy. As the years passed, the sisters did everything they could to put the ordeal behind them and move on with their lives; Piper lives in California, while Margot dedicates herself to her family and studying local history. Until one day, Piper receives a panicked call from Margot: Amy and her family are dead, supposedly at Amy's hands. However, before she died, Amy left a message that the sisters know was meant for them: "29 rooms." Suddenly, Margot and Piper are forced to revisit that fateful summer when they found a suitcase and letters that belonged to Sylvie Slater, Amy's aunt, who disappeared as a teenager.
