Lee Child, britânico de Coventry, divide seu tempo entre o apartamento que possui em Manhattan (onde pode ser visto dirigindo seu possante Jaguar) e a sua casa de campo no Sul da França. Ao ser demitido em 1995, aos 40 anos de idade, devido a um processo de reestruturação na empresa, decidiu fazer desse episódio uma oportunidade de mudar de vida: mudou-se para os Estados Unidos, gastou seis dólares comprando lápis e papel e começou a escrever thrillers de ação (Child sempre foi um leitor voraz).
