When Alita wakes up with no memories, Cyberdoctor Dyson Ido takes her in and realizes that somewhere within the abandoned young cyborg lies an extraordinary past that should remain forgotten. As Alita learns the ins and outs of her new home, Iron City, always in the shadow of the flying city of Zalem, Ido tries to shield her from her past. At the same time, Hugo, a friend she makes by accident at the central market, tries to help her regain her memory.

However, neither Hugo nor Ido can control the forces of Iron City's underworld and the interest Alita awakens in them. But when Alita must fight to survive, she makes the greatest discovery about herself: she is a ruthless warrior, and her role in this world is far greater than she could ever imagine.
