Sobre o autor

Márcio Souza

Márcio Souza nasceu em Manaus (AM) em 1946. É romancista, dramaturgo e diretor de teatro. Estudou Ciências Sociais na Universidade de São Paulo. Após sua estreia literária em 1976, com Galvez, imperador do Acre, grande sucesso de crítica e de público, escreveu, entre outros, os romances Mad Maria, O brasileiro voador e O fim do Terceiro Mundo; e a tetralogia ficcional Crônicas do Grão-Pará e Rio Negro. Entre suas obras de não ficção, estão os livros Amazônia indígena e História da Amazônia. Todos lançados pela Editora Record.

Foi diretor de planejamento da Fundação Cultural do Amazonas, diretor da Biblioteca Nacional e presidente da Funarte. Foi professor assistente na Universidade de Berkeley e escritor residente nas universidades de Stanford, Austin e Dartmouth. Como palestrante, foi convidado por inúmeras universidades, como a Universidad de San Marcos, Sorbonne, Toulouse, Aix-en-Provence, Heidelberg, Coimbra, Universidade Livre de Berlim, Harvard e Santiago de Compostela. Dirigiu o Teatro Experimental do Sesc do Amazonas e presidiu o Conselho Municipal de Política Cultural de Manaus. É membro da Academia Amazonense de Letras.
