Recently divorced and addicted to antidepressants, Jenny Cooper stumbles into her new job as a forensic investigator. On her first case, she encounters the deaths of teenagers in juvenile detention centers, seemingly unrelated but arousing Jenny's suspicions. The death of her predecessor adds another element of mystery to the story, forcing her to delve even deeper into the investigation.
