Sinopse

In Brexit: Origins and Challenges , Roger Scruton addresses one of the most turbulent political events in recent UK history and questions how to define a British identity in the years to come.

Brexit: Origins and Challenges is a response to Britain's 2016 referendum decision to leave the European Community. Whether the British people were right or wrong in voting as they did, Roger Scruton seeks to understand the historical and cultural origins of this decision, as well as how British sovereignty should be conceived in the future, in order to unite those who wanted to leave and those who preferred to remain.

Will Britain need to redefine its identity? Different understandings of its own history will influence this response, as will how its constituent countries will relate to globalization, for example, or to mass migration, the rise of Islam, and the decline of the Christian faith. Will they accept such dynamics as inevitable or will they resist them? And, if so, on what foundations will they build such resistance?

Brexit: Origins and Challenges is essential reading for anyone interested in the fate of the international order as we know it. It discusses what being British might mean in the future, and how the effects of Brexit could influence the global economy and politics.
