Crack: Reflections on how to approach and confront the problem

A fundamental book for facing head-on the fear and anguish that states like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo have been experiencing recently, with public authorities trying to take more active action and society as a whole, apprehensively, following suit. Andréa Dias shows that the issue of drugs in general, and crack in particular, is infinitely more complex historically and sociopolitically than the publicity surrounding the issue has made it seem. Fundamental questions are raised: is the cliché "crack kills" simply true? Why, in a consumerist society focused on plasticized happiness, are drugs so attractive? Who are drug users? And, after all, what is this thing we call "drugs"?
