Sinopse

Occupant of chair number four at the Brazilian Academy of Letters, Carlos Nejar presents in this Chronicles of an Immortal a collection of unpublished texts that discuss politics, religion, literature and society.

Author of novels, poems, essays, short stories, literary criticism, translations, and children's literature, Carlos Nejar is one of the most relevant writers of our time. His writing is characterized by a poetic vision, often steeped in the traditions and social reality of the Pampas.

In this book, Chronicles of an Immortal , Carlos Nejar contemplates the world in over 100 previously unpublished texts. Always generous in his writing, he engages the reader and pays tribute to the masters Olavo Bilac, Mario Quintana, Machado de Assis, and many others. He writes not only about literature but also about religion, politics, and society. His thoughts on the world follow the thread of memory; an invitation to reflection.

There are texts to celebrate the passing of the years, face the weight of loss, rediscover nostalgic childhood, and contemplate the mysteries of the divine. Taking on a tone of confession in some, and fiction in others, Nejar brings together excerpts from his entire career in these unforgettable chronicles. An anthology that portrays his entire life experience.

"The texts follow an introspective line of 'memoirs of thought.' As if it were a diary of intellectual life, a biography of ideas. The events are internal, flashes of reflection. It's impossible not to highlight half of the book. Carlos Nejar is a soul-searcher, awakening the spirit of every thing or object he touches, through the synesthesia of language. He sees soul in stones, trees, horses, streams, and mountains, blending what he read with what he feels. And he makes us think in a way we've never tried before: if man was expelled from paradise, now, unfortunately, man expels paradise from within himself." - Fabrício Carpinejar
