A prostitute, a childhood sweetheart, and an ambassador's wife: all driven by emotions and desires, both fragile and powerful, somehow involved with the main character. Set against the backdrop of the dictatorship, portrayed through the mechanisms of diplomacy and oppression, the work begins in the 1950s, which is commemorated on the occasion of the death of writer João Oswaldo, now in the present day. Suspected of having plagiarized the diary of a prostitute, João ends up sparking the interest of the narrator, who, like all journalists, wants to know a little more about the plot. He just didn't imagine he would become irrevocably connected to so many stories. • Writer and diplomat, Edgard Telles Ribeiro was also a journalist, filmmaker, and film professor. • His 1991 book O noite-mudo (The Nightstand) has already been released in the US, Germany, and the Netherlands.
