Of definitive things

In Of Definitive Things , past and future are intertwined to form a narrative web about the convoluted history of a family in São Paulo in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Julio Dansseto was one of the most influential voices in Brazil during the second half of the 20th century. His mystical presence illuminated the search for social justice for decades, but, in a skillful narrative play, his profile is defined by those around him, and the day of his death is at the center of events.

From a point ahead in time, looking at destinies already fulfilled, retired "deconstructor" João Robert da Cruz Bamalaris is interested in unraveling the origins of major changes in the course of history, which he believes occurred after the death of the great public figure Julio Dansseto. From what has already been experienced, the episodes that unfold, seemingly randomly, hold unsuspected cause-and-effect relationships.

"Of Definitive Things" is a polyphonic plot built on the deconstruction of an era and a family, a way of being and seeing the world. Linked to the figure of Dansseto, we find here the tragic stories of Isa, his wife, and Nina, their daughter; of Takashi Makaoka, a systems specialist who wants to change the world; of Natasha and Jéssica, newly graduated journalists interested in writing about Sidney, a young man who woke up one day believing he was a famous artist; of Ana Paula, Sidney's mother's cousin and wife of Roberto Bamalaris, the soldier who protected the Dansseto family in the final years of the military dictatorship that began in 1964.

All these characters form a web of relationships that never fully closes. Amidst pain and joy, circles close and others open, forming the dubious foundations of what is called the "truth of the facts." Time ebbs and flows, never ceasing to flow, even if images and sounds are trapped for centuries in computer systems.
