The book brings together the critical thinking of economist Edmar Bacha, the creator of the Plano Real.
A collection of 21 essays on the thinking of Edmar Bacha, one of Brazil's most celebrated economists. A member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, he was part of the team that formulated the Plano Real. He received the Jabuti Award for his books Belíndia 2.0, The Future of Industry in Brazil, and The Brazilian Fiscal and Monetary Crisis.
The title "From Belíndia to the Real" refers to the fictional country of Belíndia, which the economist created in his 1974 article, "The Economist and the King of Belíndia"—an ambiguous and contradictory country that illustrates the distribution of income in Brazil: a disparity between the luxurious conditions of Belgium and the poverty of India. The Plano Real (Real Plan) was responsible for returning Brazil to its original nature, leaving aside its Belíndia portion.
The volume brings together texts by the prestigious economists Affonso Celso Pastore, Alkimar R.
