Sinopse
The first book of short stories by the author of Sonata in Auschwitz. What were romantic relationships like in an offline era? Without the internet and social media to alleviate loneliness and, often, postpone deep dives into relationships? This is the world in which the protagonists of "From the Time When Voyeurs Needed Binoculars" find themselves. Three stories set in the 1990s that, with a touch of nostalgic humor, portray the characters' intriguing relationships with home—their own, someone else's, or the metaphorical. A man, tired of the boring solitude of his apartment, begins to observe the residents of the building across the street. Falling in love with a neighbor, he decides to interfere in other people's lives and ends up changing his own destiny. A woman for whom the imposition of a change of country, and home, leads to liberation over her body, sexuality, and marriage. A couple who wander through the rooms of the house, where they find themselves literally and emotionally trapped, and for whom the discomfort of a leak in the bathroom is an excuse to spill everything that is never said. The common thread of the stories is that the house appears as a physical shelter, walls that protect madness and obsessions, but which also imprison and deteriorate, as an intimate dwelling that ultimately becomes the alter ego of the bodies themselves.
