Fup

Fup , by beat writer Jim Dodge, is an indie literary gem that celebrates life in a fun and unusual narrative.

Fup is a story about a very eccentric grandfather and alcohol addict, his grandson obsessed with building fences, and a duck.

The truth is, Grandpa Jake was living his life perfectly, drinking his Old Death Whisper—the homemade whiskey he made and which he swore would grant him immortality—until he received the news that his daughter had died and left behind a baby named Tiny. At first, Grandpa Jake was more interested in the modest fortune the child brought with her, but upon seeing the little one, a light was kindled within him. The two then lived peacefully, despite their differences—which were enormous, and we're not even talking about Tiny's 6'4" height.

Grandpa Jake was fond of gambling and partying, while Tiny was easygoing. Only one thing ever got under his skin: the wild boar Lockjaw, known for destroying fences. One day, while cleaning up the debris the beast had left, Tiny found a duckling in the mud, nearly buried, which Grandpa didn't hesitate to name Fup: "Fucking duck... fucking duck... Fup." He was also the one who realized that Fup was actually a duck. And thus, a loving and unconventional relationship is forged in the daily lives of the three characters.

This magical, moving, and funny fable by Jim Dodge deals with grief, friendship, learning, and patience, but it goes beyond all that.
