In this book, historian and expert on Brazil-Africa relations Jerry Dávila offers a deep and detailed analysis of Brazilian diplomacy between the 1950s and 1980s, showing that the myth of racial democracy clashed with strong social evidence of prejudice and exclusion. Furthermore, he recounts how Brazil articulated its national development project with the aim of presenting the world with an alternative to the East-West divide. The decolonization process, which ignited Africa and international relations, exposed the underlying contradictions of Brazilian policy.
