IMPERFECT IMAGE

Utopianism suffers from a misconception: many people consider utopians and their sympathizers to be reckless dreamers—to say the least—and murderous totalitarians—in extreme cases. However, as the historian observes, utopianism has not only been unfairly repudiated but the return of a utopian, iconoclastic spirit is essential for today's society to flourish. Drawing on figures such as Theodor Adorno, Walter Benjamin, Ernst Bloch, Gustav Landauer, and other thinkers, most of them Jewish, the author shows us, in IMPERFECT IMAGE, that iconoclastic utopianism is necessary to revive society's political imagination, now dormant, and create hope for a better future.
