Sinopse

The Little Women Kit presents the North American classic Little Women in two volumes.

Louisa May Alcott probably never dreamed of leaving such a profound mark on literature. But that's what made this extraordinary woman! A staunch abolitionist, suffragist, and a feminist to the core in a society where women's voices barely rose above a whisper, she dared to defy convention by deciding to make a living from her writing. Little Women , her most acclaimed work, published in 1868, was a huge success upon its release, so much so that readers wrote to the author begging for more of the four sisters. And Louisa promptly responded the following year with Good Wives . The reason for such enchantment becomes clear as soon as we meet the March sisters: four girls full of dreams trying to make the most of each day in an America ravaged by the Civil War and haunted by famine.

In the first part, we follow the lives of the daughters of a clergyman who chose to serve his country in the war, doing their best to distract their mother and maintain some normalcy in the household. It's easy for Meg, the eldest of the four, with her serene, almost maternal personality. The opposite is true for the fiery Jo; the aspiring writer struggles to tame her temper and cannot accept the "bad luck" of being born a woman, thus being forbidden to fight alongside her father. Beth, as sweet as the music her fingers extract from the old piano, faces her own demons. Spoiled Amy daydreams of beautiful dresses, sparkling jewels, and a prince charming. These lovely women couldn't be more different. However, there's something that unites them even in their worst disagreements: their love for each other.

In its second installment, Good Wives , the four March daughters face the new challenges that adulthood brings. Meg is now a married woman responsible for running a household; the rebellious Jo continues her quest to become a writer, but encounters feelings she never imagined; Beth, with her sweet and simple manner, is caught up in a serious situation and must deal with it without losing her courage; and Amy, in turn, has the opportunity to take a journey that will change her life forever.

"Joyful, delicate, and moving, Little Women is a faithful portrait of mid-19th-century American society, the harsh realities and constant struggles of four young, imperfect women trying to survive in a world where only perfection is acceptable. A delightful read from beginning to end!" – Carina Rissi
