Open Mind is a fun and innovative novel about two very different women. Holly and Fliss deal with drastic changes in their relationships after Holly's boyfriend wants to open up the relationship, while Fliss's wants to keep it close.

Holly doesn't think she'll be proposed to tonight. But she puts on her best dress and dresses impeccably, because deep down, she kind of does. A reserved and planning type, Holly has already envisioned a future with her boyfriend Will, and is very surprised when, instead of an engagement ring, she receives a request to open up their relationship. She's never considered dating other people, but she's also never been very good at saying no.

Fliss is a free spirit. Her only monogamous relationship is in the past, and she prefers not to remember it. With Ash, her boyfriend of three years, Fliss has found the perfect routine. Ash understands that feelings aren't measured by exclusivity, and their open relationship, which involves genuine love and plenty of sex with other people, works well. However, when Ash surprises her by expressing his desire to end the relationship, Fliss decides to try again the dating dynamic she never wanted to return to.

Finding Holly crying in the bathroom during her first date in an open relationship, the two end up canceling the date and having dinner together. An instant friendship blossoms, with Fliss agreeing to teach Holly everything she knows about being in an open relationship, while Holly, who has been with the same person for almost a decade, helps Fliss try monogamy.
