The espionage thriller that inspired the film starring Ewan McGregor. The young British couple Perry and Gail—he a university professor, she a lawyer—are vacationing at a paradisiacal resort in Antigua. They plan to take a few days off to play tennis, relax, and unwind by the sea. But, ironically, they find themselves in the middle of a dangerous mission that will confront them with an ethical dilemma. The couple ends up involved in the plan of Russian criminal Dima, who intends to make a deal with the British Secret Service: hand over the names and details of an international money laundering scheme, for which he is the "principal" and, in exchange, will be transferred to England, under a new name, with his family—a woman obsessed with saints and prayers, a beautiful 16-year-old girl, her pre-teen twins, and two recently adopted girls whose parents were murdered by the Russian mafia. Dima clings to the young couple in the hope that they will intercede on his behalf in his homeland. And with that, Gail and Perry accept the difficult role of helping to transfer the not-so-discreet family to a temporary hiding place, thus becoming part of the arduous game of espionage after the Cold War.
