"

On the eve of the 10th anniversary of the start of the invasion of Afghanistan by international military troops, led by the USA, Adriana Carranca launches Afghanistan after the Taliban: Eleven stories of September 11th .

In the reportage book, the events are presented from the perspective of eleven characters in a plot based on testimonies gathered during trips through the interior of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Brazilian journalist interviewed an heiress of the Prophet Muhammad, a Taliban member, a warlord, a presidential candidate, and an illiterate Afghan housewife, among others, giving them equal weight and with the same spirit that governs the best reporting—without judgment or proselytizing.

By interacting with the people, the author experienced firsthand the tragic reality of war, sometimes felt firsthand. Protected by a burqa, as Afghan women do, she visited places considered off-limits to foreigners, such was their danger. The text is imbued with the emotion of someone who knows the places described and has personally lived with their inhabitants.

This nearly ten-year period had a moment of great symbolic importance with the capture and death of Saudi Arabian Osama bin Laden on May 2, 2011, in the city of Abbottabad, Pakistan. For some, this event represented the epilogue of this historical process known here as the Decade of Terror, while for others, it was merely the beginning of another of its bloody chapters.
