The Year of the Hare

A fable about the pleasures of freedom in middle age. Kaarlo Vatanen, a journalist, feels exhausted, tired of urban life. One summer night, while working, he accidentally runs over a small hare crossing a country road. He sets out to find the injured creature. This small incident becomes a transformative experience for Vatanen, who decides to free himself from the shackles of the world: he quits his job, leaves his wife, sells his possessions, and sets off on a journey through the Finnish wilderness with his new companion. His adventures involve massive fires, pagan sacrifices, war games, killer bears, and much more.
