The Adventures of Historian Aelius Spartanus in the Roman Empire Historian and royal messenger Aelius Spartanus, the hero of The Water Thief, returns to his investigations when he receives news of a supposed Christian miracle worker who has resurrected a man in the city of Trier. Struggling with his suspicions, Aelius must face authorities, persecuted Christians, and deliver an unwelcome message to Constantius, one of the four emperors of the Roman Empire in 304 AD.
