Sinopse

In a narrative that blends the imaginary and the real, through poetic and dramatic prose, Denise Emmer explores magical realism to tell the story of a house and a girl who suffer at the hands of tyrants.

A house in the middle of nowhere, isolated from everything and everyone, yet full of stories to tell. Within a hundred-kilometer radius, there's no other home with which to share the adventures of sheltering magical creatures, like the master and the piano he hosted, with melodies that reached the most distant stars, or the circus that occupied his quarters and made him laugh heartily.

In a time without clocks, it's now the turn of a grotesque family to find a new home. A cruel mother, an abusive stepfather, and a girl victimized by both. Amiudinha was abandoned by her father as soon as she was born and never received her mother's love. A girl who belongs nowhere, with no origins and no prospects for a future. Relegated to domestic chores from an early age, the house is all she knows and her greatest companion and ally. And, for the girl, the house is capable of anything.

Destined to protect Amiudinha, the dog Lanterna appears. Huge and illuminated, he arrives to protect the girl's safety. Having been the victim of violence and about to give birth, the girl and the dog take refuge in the attic. There, Amiudinha, her daughter Céu, and the dog Lanterna live their adventures as if in a world apart. But, meanwhile, the house begins to feel the effects of being ruled solely by tyrants.

Denise Emmer explores magical realism to fill in the gaps of the unimaginable. A dog from dreams, a ballerina school from the stars, and the house that tells the story and has a life of its own. Denise touches the deepest wounds of heinous harassment and lays bare fears, all of which immerses the reader in a plot of fantasy and horror woven with her poet's lyricism, her cellist's musicality, and her cosmic physics perspective.
