Sinopse
THE BOOK With a profound understanding of the human soul, Rosamunde Pilcher now presents her readers with *The Day of the Storm*. The central character, Rebecca Bayliss, is a young Londoner who lives far from her mother and has never learned the whereabouts of her father... until the day she receives a letter from a friend of her mother asking her to come immediately. Rebecca learns about her family and the events that culminated in her mother's separation from her father—the talented painter and former naval officer. Seeking to reconnect with her past, Rebecca sets off for Boscarva, where she meets ambiguous people who gradually reveal themselves. Grenville Bayliss, her irascible and stubborn grandfather; Joss Gardner, the skilled carpenter for whom Rebecca harbors conflicting feelings; Andréa, an unstable young woman in love with Joss; Eliot, her ambitious cousin involved in shady dealings; and Pettifer, Grenville Bayliss's loyal servant. The Stormy Day is a novel of characters who present themselves in nuances like Bayliss's paintings. New and unexpected colors emerge on each page, resulting in a canvas of extraordinary human and literary creativity. The author Rosamunde Pilcher was born in 1924 and was encouraged to write from a very early age. When the Second World War broke out, she was fifteen; she finished her schooling, worked in the Immigration Department for a year, and joined the Women's Royal Naval Service, where she served in Portsmouth and Trincomalee, Ceylon, with the East India Fleet. During this period, she began writing seriously, and at eighteen, her first story, "Woman and Home," was published. At the end of the war, she met Graham Pilcher, whom she married, and moved to Scotland, where she still lives today. They had four children and eight grandchildren.
