The exile of the old king

Auguste Geiger's life story is presented to us by his son, Arno Geiger, in the book *The Exile of the Old King*. The family patriarch is a war veteran without many fantasies, committed to his work and endowed with a mild obsession with renovating the house he lives in, but which he no longer recognizes. We are invited to witness the Geiger family's adaptation to a new challenge: the human being behind the soldier makes his weakness apparent when he is finally diagnosed with Alzheimer's. The bond between father and son grows stronger as Auguste's memory fades and his references become blurred. Endowed with a peculiar humor and the lightness of a very special intimacy, this delicate story transforms the exile forged by Auguste's disconnect with reason into a poetic reunion between father and son.
