Sinopse
THE HANDYMAN won the National Book Award (the author's second) and the Pulitzer Prize. The story, which was made into a successful film—The Man from Kiev—was released worldwide. The book is inspired by true events. In March 1911, a Christian boy was found dead on the outskirts of Kiev. Mutilated and completely bloodied, the crime was attributed to Mendel Beilis, a Jewish potter who worked near the crime scene. Anti-Semitic organizations believed that the child's Christian blood was the raw material for a macabre Jewish ritual, which used the red liquid to make unleavened bread. Beilis was immediately found guilty and tortured repeatedly.
