Rosine De Dijn narrates the dramatic story of the luxury steamship Serpa Pinto, confronting us with the abysses and absurdities of World War II. The pride of the Portuguese merchant navy, a country that practiced a skillful policy of neutrality in the international conflict, the Serpa Pinto returned to Germany in the spring of 1942 the Germans living in Brazil who wanted to fight for the Führer and their country. Crossing the Atlantic in the opposite direction, the ship represented the last escape route for persecuted Jews who were still able to leave the Old World via the port city of Lisbon. The author will come to Brazil in April to promote the book.
