The salt of the earth

American author Richard Ford, author of "Independence," published by Editora Record, revisits the saga of Frank Bascombe, a New Jersey real estate agent. During the fall of 2000, the year of the millennium and the presidential election, Frank feels he has reached a state of tranquility and acceptance that he calls the "Permanent Period." While preparing for the Thanksgiving holiday, he realizes that his expectations of peace are dashed when his family confronts him with various crises and problems.
