The last slave ship in America

In November 1858, a ship glided silently toward the coast and unloaded more than four hundred African slaves in the state of Georgia, 38 years after the enactment of the law that outlawed the African slave trade in the United States. Erik Calonius recreates important and little-remembered events of the period to show the real purpose behind a slave ship's last venture into American waters—to accelerate the country's civil war.
