Shadows

A cemetery in Berlin becomes the stage for the story of a woman ahead of her time. Amidst half-destroyed tombstones and graves of soldiers and civilians killed in World War II, lies Marga von Etzdorf, a pioneering German aviator who committed suicide at the age of 25 in Aleppo, Syria. At the center of the narrative, a tour guide known only as "the gray one" guides the reader through Marga's life, while also evoking ghosts of the decadent and anti-Semitic Germany of the early 1940s.
